Renewable Energy case study - Velocity Energy

In this marketing for renewable energy case study we look at what we achieved for Velocity Energy.

Velocity Energy is an Australian company supporting the transition to renewable energy through smart demand response solutions.

Their virtual power stations supply flexible, responsive and reliable capacity to increase the energy available during peak times and support the variability of renewable energy.

The Early Days

In 2011, Sustainable Marketing Services developed a complete marketing system for Velocity Energy ranging from a brand positioning, marketing strategy, new website, marketing campaign at the National Smart Grids Forum this week, marketing brochures, sales material, PR pack, though leadership editorials and even signage.

For the website, we developed a digital strategy, created the web content and sourced images, managed the build of the website. A special campaign webpage has been created with an offer of a carbon tax report. (The website was built by iSonic.)

The marketing activity in the early years helped elevate the professionalism of the Velocity Energy brand, raised awareness of their brand and explained the benefits of their solutions in easy to understand language.

In 2023, their original website (see below) was 12 years old and delivered a good investment return. However, It was time for a new website and content strategy to adapt to changes in digital marketing, user experiences and target audience attitudes.

The Brief

The Sustainable Marketing Services team was engaged by Velocity Energy to reposition the brand and manage the build and launch of a new website.

This included Velocity Energy's brand positioning and brand architecture with sister company Flex Charge, digital marketing and marketing communications.

We had the pleasure of helping Velocity Energy to reposition and refresh their brand with the following:

  • Strategy Positioning: to reposition Velocity Energy as supporting the transition to renewable energy
  • Digital Strategy: to create the strategy and manage the build of a new website to support the new brand positioning and new trends in digital marketing
  • Marketing Communications: to write the web copy to reflect the new brand positioning, brand story and changing trends in content marketing.

Our Strategy

The renewal energy industry has continued to evolve, and Velocity Energy’s brand positioning and marketing communications needed a refresh to reflect changes in the market and the evolving attitudes of their target audiences.

Today’s web design focusses on the fusion of words and visuals working as one unified tool. Before the build phase, we crafted individual webpages, with words, headlines, visuals and call to actions that worked together to support the brand story and audience experience.

Our strategy influenced the following pivotal changes:

  • Brand Positioning: changing from “Smart Grid of Tomorrow Today” to “Supporting the Energy Transition” to reflects shifts in audience attitudes
  • Simplified Website Design: the surge in mobile usage has influenced the simplification of website design and navigation with a focus on mobile-first and user experience
  • Integration of Words and Visuals: carefully crafting the words and selecting images that complement each other, creates an engaging and seamless user experience.

The Results

The results we achieved using marketing for renewable energy included supporting Velocity Energy to elevate and build trust in their brand and to help their sales team to grow income and support their business objectives.
