Traditional marketing are methods that are often overlooked in this digital age. These methods include print, broadcast, direct mail, phone, and outdoor advertising such as billboards. There are two important factors in traditional marketing.

1. Know who your customers are and target them using the right communication channels.

2. Create a unique selling proposition and offer.

a. This offer must stand out and convey why your business is unique. Are you offering a free trial, free consultation or first time discount to get new customers to take action? If not, your marketing will be less effective.

By following these two strategies for traditional marketing, you will ensure your business remains in the public eye. These traditional methods are still effective if they are used correctly.

We recently did a mail out for one of our clients, Little Ship Club. This campaign was to encourage membership renewals. We began with a tangible mail out, and we combined it with direct emails and follow up phone calls. This combination ensures the maximum reach of the campaign with the highest possible return. These three methods serve as constant reminders to the members to renew their membership.

As great as social media might be, it still doesn’t give a personalised touch like that of direct mail. Traditional marketing can also work alongside digital marketing by driving leads to digital channels. This is a way to deliver the same content to two different channels, increasing the number of people reached and how many times they are reached. This can be done with scannable QR codes that lead to online content, or with promo codes for discounts on products and services. These methods allow you to track the return on the mail out. Other methods of tracking include creating a link to a unique landing page of the website or using a campaign specific contact number or email.

Although traditional marketing may not be as flexible as digital, and also tends to be of a higher cost, it is still a valuable tool.
